We are a church that rolls up our sleeves and gets to work. Whether it’s  joining with 30,000 young people doing community volunteer work at an ELCA Youth Gathering, the passionate volunteers feeding those in need through the soup kitchen and food bank or devoted members of our congregations who fight for peace and justice in their communities every day, we are a church that boldly does God’s work of restoring and reconciling communities. Working together in the congregation and in the community, St. James works to SERVE those in need as we are able and as we are called. ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’
